Literature Text

I felt a heavy breath of anticipation well up inside of  me as we turned the corner to my house.

< I'm headed back to my house now. I hope that me being a werewolf won't show.> I looked at the scout beside and saw that he took no notice of me, like nothing had changed. <Maybe not. Still, I do have the want to tell my family, but I have a feeling it would cause a lot of trouble.>

When the truck stopped, I grabbed my stuff out of the back and quickly ran for my front door, throwing it open and running inside. My feet glided up the stairs so fast, I thought I was bound to trip and fall before I made it to my room. As to why I was in a hurry, I didn't know.

Making it inside, I quickly put the stuff in my backpack away before pulling out the letter. I began to read it, noticing the handwriting was terrible:

By now, I assume you are in your room at home, John. I knew you would be smart enough to not open it as soon as you found it.

Congratulations! You are now officially a werewolf! I'm amazed that you were able to keep the whole thing secret without our help. Although, when I saw your gray and cream colored body leave the tent, I knew for a fact you were going to try and come see us. Then... you changed back. Which, once again, I am surprised you were able to do it on your own! You will be a great werewolf indeed.

Now, skipping the rest of the formalities, I bet you're wondering "What am I going to do now?" or "How am I going to stop being a werewolf?" Well, I'll tell you one thing: There is no going back. You are a werewolf until the day you die, and you'd probably still be a werewolf after that too! I assume you still want to live the normal life. Give it a try! No one is stopping you! It is, however, hard to keep it concealed forever. People are bound to find out sooner or later.

Finally, I will give you a warning... as a game of sorts. Trevon and I have taken some of the werewolf virus and found out its DNA code, and how it works. We were able to find out how to make it work... with other animals. Of course, we need test subjects. This is where your friends come in.... Care to play?

The letter was finished with a red paw print followed by P.S. This is cranberry juice. We stole it from your tent.

I suddenly felt lightheaded, realizing that my friends were in danger. <This is just a game to them! But, how do they know who my friends are? How are they going to get them?> My mind started racing. <I'm sure that if it were just us being werebeasts, we could cope with it... with great difficulty. But, there must be a reason why they're going to try and do this – and I don't like it at all.> I sat down, putting the letter under my bed.

I caught a whiff of myself, smelling like a mix of body odor and dog. <Oh, great... I smell like a dog now.... I guess I better take a shower.> Without another moment of hesitation, I flew out of my room towards the bathroom, and took a shower.

When I had finished getting rid of the musky odor in the shower, I got out and put on a new pair of clothes. As soon as I finished putting on my shirt, I heard a knock at me door.

"Come in!" I said, flipping over the pants that had a hole in the back to prevent whoever it was from seeing it.

The door creaked open and my mom's head popped in. "Honey, how was your trip?"

I groaned. "You know how much I hate camping, Mom – it was terrible!"

"Did you get attacked by the mysterious 'psycho' that roams around the Wasatch?" My mom asked, teasing me about my fears from a few days ago.

I looked her straight in the eye and frowned. "I didn't, but Jared did."

Her eyes looked puzzled. "What? You mean, you were attacked?"

I sighed. "What part of, 'Jared did' do you not get? We went up there, and played capture the flag. Jared went into the woods and was attacked by the psycho!"

Her eyes widened with alarm. "Is he okay?"

A growl rose in my throat. "I had to go in and get him. Everyone else was too scared." I knew that if she kept asking questions, I would have to start making up stuff, or lie about the whole thing, and I was a terrible liar.

"You weren't attacked?" She asked, opening the door a little more.

"Quite strangely, no. But, Jared was in hysteria when I found him." I left out certain details.

"Oh, um...." She was at a loss of words. "Well, you can tell me more about it later. Right now, I have to go to work. Bye!" She quickly shut the door behind her, looking more like she was in a hurry rather than trying to avoid talking with me more.

I gave a shrug before continuing to put my clothes on. I started putting on my socks when I wondered, <Which one of my friends are they going to target first? Did they give any hints at all?>

When I finished putting on my shoes, I grabbed the letter and started reading it again.... Nothing. Other than the threat the two wrote down, all that was left was the paw print made of cranberry juice. I assumed it to be their signature. I took a whiff of the paw print, taking note of the bitter smell of cranberries. But, there was something else hidden inside the smell. It was an almost fragrant, musky smell, much like boys' cologne. <I don't wear cologne, so it can't be mine.> I sniffed the rest of the paper, finding it only smelled like ink. <They must have put that cologne with the cranberry juice.... It smells so familiar too. Where have I smelled it before?>

I didn't know where the smell came from, but I knew they purposefully put it in there. Whether it was to trick me or to give me a clue, I didn't know.
Upon arriving home, John reads the letter, finding its contents to put him on edge.

After a while, I finally put up capter 8... I was in a bit of a slump with this story, because it was so hard to figure out what to do next. XD... Well, enjoy!
